The island of Luzon in the northern Philippines is the fifteenth largest island on Planet Earth by land area. With 109,965 square kilometers (42,458 square miles) it is slightly smaller than the North and South Islands of Zealand and slightly larger than Newfoundland, Cuba and Iceland. Luzon is the largest and most populous island of the 7,641 (~2,000 inhabited) that make up the Philippines.
